KEDAH, 8 March 2025 – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail explained the firm actions taken by the National Registration Department (JPN) regarding the issue of fake identity cards (MyKad) that went viral on social media, while also commenting on the 3R (People, Religion, Royalty) issues that some parties are attempting to politicize.

Regarding the fake MyKad case, he said the JPN acted swiftly after receiving a report from an individual claiming their identity had been misused. According to the report, the victim lost their MyKad several years ago and recently discovered that their identity had been used to secure a loan for purchasing electronic devices.

“On 7 March, two suspects were arrested in connection with this case. Today, they were remanded to assist with the investigation,” Saifuddin said during a press conference here, last night. He added that the main suspect – a 35-year-old man – was detained in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur, at 7:30 pm, after which another fake MyKad was found in his wallet.

Investigations are being conducted under Regulations 25(1)(e), 25(1)(a), and 25(1)(g) of the National Registration Regulations 1990. If convicted, the suspects face imprisonment of up to three years, a maximum fine of RM20,000, or both. The minister also stressed that further arrests are not ruled out, depending on the progress of the investigation.

Shifting focus to the 3R issue, Saifuddin reminded that politics should aim to resolve the people’s problems rather than exploit racial or religious sentiments.

“We will not hesitate to take legal action against those attempting to incite tension, including under the Penal Code, the Communications Act, or other relevant laws,” he asserted.

He also revealed that, based on the latest data, significant actions have already been taken against certain leaders who violated laws related to 3R issues.

“Our politics must return to policies and programs that benefit the people, not play on sensitive issues,” he said.

Saifuddin emphasized the MADANI Government’s commitment to ensuring transparent governance focused on the people’s welfare, while enforcing the law without compromise against any party that disrupts national stability.
