KUALA LUMPUR, 8 March 2025 – Today marks the eleventh anniversary of the tragic disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, a mystery that remains unresolved.
The Malaysian Government has reaffirmed its steadfast commitment to continue the search efforts to locate the aircraft, even though 11 years have passed since it vanished on 8 March 2014.
Despite the passage of time, the grief and uncertainty felt by the families of the passengers and crew of MH370 remain profound.
In an effort to provide the long-awaited answers, the Malaysian Government, through a Cabinet decision on 13 December 2024, has agreed to accept a proposal from the United Kingdom-based company Ocean Infinity to resume search operations in a new area covering approximately 15,000 square kilometers in the southern Indian Ocean.
The operation will be conducted on a “no find, no fee” basis, meaning no payment will be required unless the wreckage of the plane is successfully located.
“It is our responsibility to persist in our efforts based on credible leads to determine the final resting place of MH370, thereby providing closure to the victims’ families,” said the Ministry of Transport (MOT) in an official statement today.
The MOT is actively finalizing a new search agreement with Ocean Infinity, in line with Malaysian Government procedures, given the high public interest in this case. Additionally, the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) have appointed accredited representatives to support this mission from a technical perspective.
“The government appreciates the cooperation and assistance of all parties involved in this search effort, which is considered one of the most complex in aviation history,” the statement added.
On this day of solemn remembrance, the Malaysian Government expressed its deep sympathy to the families of the passengers and crew of MH370.
“The effort to find answers will continue tirelessly,” the MOT emphasized, while pledging transparency in updates regarding the search efforts.
The MH370 tragedy, which involved 239 passengers and crew, remains one of the greatest aviation mysteries in the world, and this latest effort is hoped to bring a ray of hope to those still awaiting certainty.
