Semenyih, 8 April 2025 – Bangi Member of Parliament, Syahredzan Johan has voiced his views regarding the actions of Semenyih State Assemblyman, Nushi Mahfodz, who visited non-Muslim places of worship.
According to him, such actions are part of a representative’s responsibility to engage with people of various races and religions in their constituencies.
Syahredzan emphasized that the presence of a Muslim representative at a temple, Taoist shrine, or church is not intended to participate in religious rituals, but solely to respond to invitations from constituents who require their representative’s attention and support.
“Representatives must represent all races and religions, not just their own community,” he said in a statement today.
He also expressed hope that this issue would put an end to the polemics frequently stirred up, particularly by supporters of certain political parties, concerning visits by representatives to non-Muslim places of worship.
Syahredzan criticized the inconsistent stance of some parties who condemn the actions of certain leaders but remain silent when their own leaders do the same.
“Several Pakatan Harapan leaders, including the Right Honourable Prime Minister, have been condemned and criticized for engaging with people at non-Muslim places of worship. I myself have experienced the same,” he said, adding that such biased approaches must stop.
He urged all parties to engage in mature politics and refrain from twisting the good intentions of representatives who aim to strengthen ties with all segments of society.
“Let it not be that when leaders from the opposing side do it, it’s wrong, but when your own leaders do it, it’s acceptable,” he asserted firmly.
