Shah Alam, 11 April 2025 – The floods that struck Dun Kota Kemuning early this morning have sparked serious concerns among residents, with areas such as Taman Sri Muda, Taman Desa Kemuning, Kampung Bukit Lanchong, Bukit Kemuning, and Kampung Lanchong Jaya severely affected. The incident not only disrupted the lives of thousands of residents but also highlighted the weaknesses in the existing flood mitigation system.

According to Preakas Sampunathan, the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Kota Kemuning, heavy rainfall that began at midnight caused the flooding despite drainage pumps only being activated at 3 a.m. He described the delay as a clear indication that the current system is inadequate to handle such situations.

“What is more worrying is that the floods are no longer confined to Taman Sri Muda but have spread to other areas in Kota Kemuning. This shows that the flood mitigation system, including pumps and drainage, is not functioning as effectively as expected,” Preakas said in a statement today.

He urgently called for immediate intervention from the Selangor Menteri Besar to address the issue. Preakas stressed that residents are not interested in excuses but demand concrete solutions to prevent such incidents from recurring.

“I urge the Menteri Besar to directly oversee agencies such as the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) and local authorities (PBT). Residents want to see a government that cares and acts decisively,” he added.

Preakas also called for stricter maintenance work and contractor monitoring, alongside enhancing the capacity of the flood mitigation system in the area. He questioned, “How many more times must residents be displaced? How much more property must be destroyed? This is not a new issue; the people have been voicing their concerns for years.”

As the ADUN for Kota Kemuning, elected in the 2023 State Election, Preakas, a qualified lawyer, is known for his commitment to justice and advocacy. He is a founding partner of the law firm Preakas and Partners, which has been providing a wide range of legal services since its establishment in 2017.

Preakas’ statement reflects the hopes of Kota Kemuning residents for a swift resolution to the recurring flood issue, ensuring a safer and more secure future for all.
