CYBERJAYA, 8 April 2025 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is taking proactive measures to ensure the stability of communication services in Putra Heights and several Temporary Evacuation Centers (PPS) following a gas pipeline fire incident that occurred on the morning of Tuesday, 1 April 2025.

The incident disrupted nine (9) telecommunication structures around the affected area, including one (1) belonging to CelcomDigi, two (2) owned by Maxis, and six (6) operated by U Mobile. All these structures experienced power supply issues. However, thanks to the swift response from telecommunications service providers (Telcos), full service restoration was achieved on the same day.

To ensure uninterrupted Internet services for frontline workers and victims sheltered at the PPS in Masjid Putra Heights, Telcos have optimized existing telecommunication infrastructure to meet the increased demand. Additionally, a Mobile Cellular Vehicle (MCV) unit has been deployed to the area to enhance coverage quality. Telekom Malaysia (TM) has also contributed by providing free WiFi facilities at two (2) PPS locations as further support.

To assist affected victims, Telcos are actively reaching out to their customers, offering aid such as SIM card and damaged device replacements, bill adjustments, and setting up dedicated service counters at PPS locations to facilitate their needs.

MCMC remains committed to closely monitoring the situation and collaborating closely with all relevant parties to ensure that communication service quality remains optimal, particularly for victims currently sheltered at the PPS.
