KUALA LUMPUR, April 21, 2025 – Malaysia and Indonesia have taken a significant step toward enhancing bilateral cooperation in technical and vocational education and training (TVET) with the signing of Letters of Intent (LOI) between Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), the Provincial Government of Jakarta, and the Provincial Government of West Sumatra.
The agreements, witnessed by Deputy Prime Minister Dato' Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, mark a strategic leap in developing highly skilled human capital to meet global economic challenges. The collaboration with Jakarta focuses on advancing TVET through joint research, student mobility, credit transfers, and industry linkages, fostering inclusive and internationally recognized educational opportunities.
Meanwhile, the partnership with West Sumatra introduces the innovative Ulul Albab Huffaz TVET Minangkabau program, blending Islamic education, technical skills, and Minangkabau cultural values to produce globally competitive, holistic huffaz professionals.
In a parallel development, Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) signed an LOI with the West Sumatra Provincial Government to strengthen educational ties. EMGS will streamline visa processes for sponsored students and match them with suitable Malaysian higher education programs, ensuring structured, student-friendly procedures grounded in mutual responsibility.
Both parties are committed to comprehensive higher education cooperation, adhering to respective national laws and policies. The five-year initiatives are expected to drive innovation, enhance graduate employability, and contribute to sustainable regional economic growth.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid expressed confidence that these efforts will solidify Malaysia and Indonesia’s shared vision as kindred nations, paving the way for a brighter, progressive future for the next generation.
