PUTRAJAYA, 14 April 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today chaired the first 2025 Sports Development Cabinet Committee Meeting (JKPS), outlining a bold new direction for Malaysia’s sports development that prioritizes inclusivity and high impact.

The meeting finalized the designation of 20 High-Performance Core Sports, which will serve as the cornerstone for shaping policies, programs, and funding allocations involving all sports stakeholders.

“This progressive approach aims to build a more efficient, systematic, and focused national sports ecosystem,” Ahmad Zahid stated.

The role of sports in fostering unity was also emphasized, with a commitment to an inclusive approach that bridges divides across race, religion, and socioeconomic backgrounds. The meeting gave special attention to the growth of e-sports and the One Student, One Sport (1M1S) policy as key platforms for identifying and nurturing young talent.

Ahmad Zahid expressed confidence that with sustained commitment from all parties, Malaysia can produce more world-class athletes, strengthen the sports industry, and elevate the nation’s reputation on the global stage.

“Let us unite Malaysia through the spirit of sportsmanship for a brighter future, God willing,” he urged.
