TAPAH, April 22, 2025 - As of yesterday, a total of seven complaints were received regarding the campaign for the Ayer Kuning by-election (PRK).

According to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail during a press conference here yesterday, the complaints included misuse of images and reports about a candidate allegedly having issues with religious authorities regarding their credentials.

"Not every complaint will lead to an investigation being opened. We have a classification process. Among the complaints are those about misuse of images and reports about a candidate who allegedly has issues with religious authorities. In the application for religious credentials, the rule is that one must declare whether they are involved in politics. If political involvement is declared, it’s highly likely the credentials won’t be granted. That’s the rule. But here, it’s alleged that the opposite happened. The candidate is said to have such credentials, meaning they might not have disclosed accurate details. Hence, a complaint was made," said Saifuddin.

Another complaint involved the act of taking down flags or banners, which is considered a treacherous act.

"During campaigns, when one or two incidents occur, the tension can rise, leading to acts of treachery and so on. So, there were two complaints about misuse of images, two about taking down flags or banners, and one about a candidate. That makes a total of seven," he added.

The police will assess whether to open investigations under the Penal Code or other relevant provisions.

"What is the underlying message behind the number of complaints?

"Compared to previous election campaigns, whether general elections or by-elections, the number seven is considered relatively low. A low number suggests that compliance with campaign regulations is in very good condition," Saifuddin remarked.
