CYBERJAYA, 7 April 2025 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has initiated four investigation papers against two individuals suspected of uploading false and sensitive content related to the 3R issues—race, religion, and royalty—on the social media platforms Facebook and TikTok. The recording of statements from both individuals was conducted today at MCMC’s headquarters in Cyberjaya to assist with further investigations.

One of the individuals under investigation is a political influencer and activist alleged to have posted content that incited racial sentiments. Among the issues linked to this individual are controversial comments about the Perak state anthem, claims of Malay economic dominance through the breakup of monopolies held by Petronas and Gas Malaysia Berhad, and allegations regarding the takeover of Menara Kuala Lumpur.

The case is being investigated under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both, if found guilty. In a related development, MCMC has seized one mobile phone and one SIM card belonging to one of the suspects for forensic analysis. Meanwhile, the mobile phone of the second suspect had already been confiscated by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for a separate offense investigation.

MCMC has reminded the public to use social media responsibly and cautiously, and to refrain from uploading 3R-related content that could threaten racial and religious harmony in Malaysia.
