KUALA LUMPUR, April 4, 2025 – Tourism Malaysia is heralding a new chapter in regional connectivity with the launch of FitsAir’s direct flights from Colombo to Kuala Lumpur, effective today. The low-cost carrier’s expansion is set to bolster ties between Sri Lanka and Malaysia, offering travelers an affordable and convenient gateway to explore Malaysia’s rich tourism offerings.
The new service will operate four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—providing 4 additional flights to the existing weekly schedule between the two destinations. With this route, FitsAir joins Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, and SriLankan Airlines in linking Colombo to Malaysia, where 30 direct flights currently offer 4,990 seats weekly.
Dato’ Shaharuddin Abu Sohot, Secretary General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, hailed the development as a boost for Malaysia’s tourism ambitions.
“FitsAir’s new route underscores Kuala Lumpur’s growing appeal to Sri Lankan travelers,” he said. “This is a strategic step toward increasing flight frequencies and promoting Malaysia as a must-visit destination ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.”
The launch event saw the presence of key figures, including Datuk Manoharan Periasamy, Director General of Tourism Malaysia; Mr. Munir Parambath, VP of Ground Operations and Service Excellence at FitsAir Airlines; and Mr. Zainuddin Mohamed @ Zainal, General Manager of Aviation Marketing & Development at Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB).
Sri Lankan arrivals to Malaysia have shown steady growth, with 61,766 visitors recorded in 2024—a 4.2% rise from the previous year. The new FitsAir flights promise to further this trend, offering budget-conscious travelers access to Malaysia’s iconic landmarks like the Petronas Twin Towers, the pristine shores of Langkawi, and the vibrant heritage of Penang.
