Sibu is grappling with yet another flash flood, forcing 65 residents to seek refuge at the Sibu Jaya Community Centre. The facility remains open as more displaced individuals arrive.

Yesterday, MP for Sibu, Dato’ Seri Tiong King Sing, visited the center to evaluate conditions and address urgent needs. A key issue—insufficient water supply—prompted swift action, with authorities contacted to resolve it.

To support vulnerable groups, particularly the elderly with mobility issues, tables have been set up for easy access to essential supplies, reducing strain on evacuees.

With the floods hitting during Ramadan, special provisions ensure hot Iftar meals for Muslim evacuees and staff, coordinated with the Department of Social Welfare (JKM). Tiong also personally purchased drinks, dry food, and other necessities to bolster the centre’s dwindling stock.

Expressing gratitude to tireless volunteers and responders, Tiong called for public support, urging donations of dry food and essentials. Contact Ms. Sandra from JKM at 013-7717103 to contribute.

“Let’s unite to help those in need,” he said.
