SEGAMAT, 23 MARCH 2025 – A working visit to Segamat today provided Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook with the opportunity to personally experience the convenience of the Electric Train Service (ETS), which has now been extended to this district. The initiative is regarded as a significant step in strengthening the nation’s public transportation network.
In a Facebook post, Loke revealed that he received a comprehensive briefing from the top management of Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) on the progress of the ETS Gemas–Johor Bahru route, expected to be fully completed this year.
“This service will not only enhance the mobility of people between major southern cities but also has the potential to catalyse local economic growth by complementing the existing transportation system,” he said.
Additionally, updates on the Klang Valley Double Track Phase 2 (KVDT2) project were presented during the briefing. This project plays a crucial role in improving the overall efficiency of the rail system in the capital.
The briefing was attended by senior management from the Rail Asset Corporation (RAC) and YTL Construction, reflecting the strong collaboration between various government agencies and the private sector in driving the transformation of the country’s rail infrastructure.
Loke emphasised that these efforts underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring an efficient and sustainable public transportation system for the benefit of the people and Malaysia’s economic development.
