PUTRAJAYA, 12 March 2025 – The Special Operation Pagar Laut Series 1/2025 was officially launched yesterdat=y aboard the vessel KM Tun Fatimah by the Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. This critical operation, conducted by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) across the nation’s waters, aims to ensure maritime security remains intact.

According to Saifuddin, the operation will be carried out across all Malaysian waters, with a primary focus on curbing and combating cross-border crimes, especially in ‘hotspot’ areas during the months of Ramadan and Syawal.

This edition of Ops Pagar Laut is scheduled to run until 1 Syawal and will continue for two weeks thereafter, encompassing four main phases:

  • Information Gathering Phase
  • Pre-Festival Enforcement Phase
  • Post-Festival Enforcement Phase
  • Evaluation Phase (Post Exercise Debrief – PXD)

He also highlighted that, since its implementation from 2020 to 2024, Ops Pagar Laut has recorded impressive successes, with the suppression of 251 maritime crime cases and seizures worth nearly RM110 million.

“This proves the effectiveness of the operation in tackling maritime crimes that could cause significant losses to the nation,” Saifuddin said.

Following the launch ceremony, Saifuddin had the opportunity to break his fast with APMM personnel aboard the vessel.

“It’s not every day you get to experience iftar in the middle of the sea with the heroes who safeguard our waters,” he remarked, expressing gratitude for the experience.

In his speech, he conveyed his appreciation to the APMM and all parties involved in making the operation a success.
“I pray that the APMM personnel, who work tirelessly to protect the nation’s security, are always granted strength, good health, and protection from any harm,” he added.

The launch of the Special Operation Pagar Laut reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening maritime security, particularly during the festive season, which is often a peak period for cross-border criminal activities.
