GUANGZHOU, March 8, 2025 – Tourism Malaysia launched its first consumer-focused event in Guangzhou, China, since the pandemic, kicking off the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) Promotion Campaign at TeeMall from March 7-9. The initiative aims to draw 7 million Chinese visitors by 2026, a key target for Malaysia’s tourism growth.

The three-day event was officiated by Samuel Lee, Deputy Director General (Promotion II) of Tourism Malaysia, Suraya Ahmad Pauzi, Consulate General of Malaysia in Guangzhou, and Dato’ Dr. Angie Ng, President of the Malaysia Inbound Chinese Association (MICA).

Held at the bustling TeeMall, the campaign showcased Malaysian culture through activities like labu sayong and batik painting, while promoting exclusive travel packages.

Aimed at sustaining momentum for VM2026, the event positions Malaysia as a safe, appealing destination for Chinese travelers and strengthens ties with Guangzhou’s tourism industry.

In 2024, Malaysia saw 3.7 million Chinese visitors—a 130.9% surge from the previous year—fueled by a visa-free policy extended to December 2026 and 515 weekly flights.
