KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA February 24, 2025 – The Royal Military College (RMC), the only fully residential school under the Ministry of Defence Malaysia, possesses a unique distinction in its administration and military- and leadership-based learning system, said Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari in the Dewan Rakyat today.
The RMC is managed administratively by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), while its academic aspects adhere to the National Curriculum under the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE), making it a distinctive educational institution that integrates military discipline with formal learning.
Addressing concerns raised about discipline, the Ministry of Defence, through the ATM, has implemented various improvements to ensure that the learning environment and disciplinary standards at RMC remain conducive.
Among the measures introduced are:
Prohibition of Disciplinary Violations – The Standing Orders for Cadets (PTP) strictly prohibit any activities that breach discipline among RMC students (Cadets).
Separation of Accommodation Blocks – Since 2020, accommodation blocks for Form 5 and Form 4 Cadets have been separated to reduce the risk of undesirable incidents.
Periodic Patrols – Duty Instructors conduct regular and unscheduled patrols at accommodation blocks after 11:30 PM daily, with checks every two hours.
Increased CCTV Coverage – The number of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in the accommodation block areas has been increased from 12 to 64 units to monitor and detect suspicious activities.
Counselling Sessions – Cadets involved in disciplinary breaches are provided with counselling sessions as a rehabilitative measure.
Engagement Sessions – Meetings between Cadets, administrators, and instructors are held to gather initial information on misconduct, addressing reluctance to report wrongdoing.
Adly Zahari stressed that the Ministry of Defence and ATM will not compromise on any form of disciplinary offence, including bullying.
“Investigations will be conducted, and stern action will be taken against any individual found involved,” he said, underscoring a firm commitment to upholding discipline at RMC.
