KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA 20 Feb 2025 – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said there is no ban imposed on preacher Zakir Naik from delivering talks in the country.
He stated that the temporary ban imposed on Zakir in 2019 is no longer applicable at this time.
“There are no restrictions placed by the government on Zakir Naik,” Saifuddin said in the Dewan Rakyat (Parliament).
He was responding to a question from RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong), who asked whether Zakir is still prohibited from giving talks following a ban order issued by the police against him in 2019.
In August 2019, the police issued a directive to all state contingents prohibiting Zakir from delivering public talks across the country.
The ban was enforced after Zakir reportedly made controversial statements about Hindu and Chinese communities in Malaysia during a talk in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, on August 3, 2019.
News portal The Scoop reported that Zakir Naik had delivered a speech or conducted an open preaching session at an event in Kangar on February 2, 2025.
