KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA 17 Feb 2025 – Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that there are no pending disciplinary cases involving police officers under the ministry’s purview.
He explained that ongoing cases are still under investigation by the Integrity Department, which is required to make recommendations in accordance with the Standing Orders of the Inspector-General of Police.
“This means the current system and processes are sufficient to prevent delays in deciding on disciplinary cases.
“Before I took office (as Home Minister), there were cases unresolved for six to seven years. Some police officers had already retired but were still subject to disciplinary proceedings,” he said during the oral question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Abd Ghani Ahmad (PN-Jerlun) regarding improvements to the Independent Police Conduct Commission (IPCC) and immediate actions on complaints involving misconduct among police officers.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin said he chairs the Police Force Commission (SPP) meeting every month to discuss rank promotions and confirmations.
He added that disciplinary issues are also addressed during these meetings.
“For your information, since I took office, I inherited a backlog of unresolved disciplinary cases.
“That’s why, when I came in and reviewed the situation, I found this issue could be addressed immediately.
“So, we increased the number of legal officers in the SPP, and now, all cases have been resolved,” he said.
