ReDI Adventure Program 2024 introduces rural traders to digital business concept

PUTRAJAYA, July 5, 2024 – The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) organized the Retail Sector Digitalization Initiative (ReDI) Expedition Program from July 2 to July 5, 2024. The program commenced in Putrajaya and covered locations in Pahang (Raub and Kuala Lipis), Kelantan (Gua Musang and Kuala Krai), and Terengganu (Kuala Besut and Jerteh).

The program was inaugurated by KPDN’s Secretary-General, Dato’ Seri Mohd Sayuthi bin Bakar. ReDI Expedition, spanning four days, is the second major ReDI event this year. It focuses on collective advocacy and intensive onboarding. Strategic partners for the program include Maybank, Agro Bank, and Touch ‘n Go.

KPDN’s proactive approach aims to expose rural traders to digital business operations, particularly through the use of e-wallets for transactional purposes. The goal is to create a cashless society across the country, especially in rural areas.

Aligned with the government’s vision, KPDN supports digitalization through the Digital Economy Action Framework for Malaysia, launched on February 19, 2021. The framework promotes electronic payment onboarding for both traders and consumers, with the aim of registering 15,000 e-wallet merchants by 2025 through Local Authorities (PBTs) nationwide, as part of the Twelfth Malaysia Plan (2021-2025) under the theme “Reviving the Economy.”

With support from Bank Negara Malaysia, the ReDI initiative offers efficient financial management, business growth opportunities, diverse payment options, and effective inventory management for participating traders.

KPDN hopes that this advocacy expedition strategy will encourage at least 500 small traders across all districts to embrace digital literacy and transition to cashless payment systems in their business operations
